Description

Aerodynamics or lightness alone don't win races — what counts is speed. To achieve this speed you need to create an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness and vibration damping. Thanks to complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has verified that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any terrain: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat road, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo route, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in the process we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, more aerodynamic than the Venge too. The front end has been optimized for maximum advantage. The fork tube is positioned rearward relative to the front part of the frame's head tube to deliver much lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to new UCI regulations, with the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, ensuring that turbulent air in the leg zone can flow more easily toward the rear of the bike. LIGHTNESS To create the Tarmac SL8 and build the most aerodynamic bicycle while respecting UCI's minimum weight requirements, we drew inspiration from what we learned with the Aethos. The team engineered a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. By focusing on maximum lightness in the seat tube, seat stay and rear of the bike, we applied lessons learned from the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to loads that we were able to reduce material thickness, cutting away anything unnecessary. *Except for that time Kasper Asgreen raced our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas that ensure power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, on the saddle the Tarmac SL8 feels more comfortable, filtering 6% more vibration from the ground and letting you attack corners with a sense of agility and balance unmatched in the road bike world. The new Tarmac SL8 maintains the proven geometry of the SL7 model, with the same generous 32 mm tire clearance, so you can run a larger volume tire when you need to. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES In reality there can be far more differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where none exist. Every cyclist, male or female, can benefit from the advantages of the Tarmac SL8. It's time to move beyond. The Tarmac SL8 frame, with 68mm threaded bottom bracket, is the perfect starting point to build the bike of your dreams.
