Description
Aerodynamics or light weight alone don't win races: what matters is speed. To achieve that speed you need an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, light weight, stiffness and vibration absorption. Through complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has proven that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike on any course: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat terrain, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in the process we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, even more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimised for maximum advantage. The fork steerer is set back relative to the front of the head tube to deliver significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, on the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, ensuring that the turbulent air around the legs can flow more easily towards the rear of the bike. WEIGHT: To create the Tarmac SL8 and build the most aerodynamic bike while meeting UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew on everything we learned with the Aethos. The team developed a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike in the World Tour*. By focusing on maximum weight savings in the down tube, seat tube and rear end of the bike, we applied the lessons learned during the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to stress that it was possible to reduce material thickness, eliminating everything unnecessary. *Except for that one time Kasper Asgreen raced on our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY: The Tarmac SL8's stiffness-to-weight ratio is 33% better than the SL7's. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedalling input. While the areas that ensure power transfer and handling precision are stiffer than ever, in the saddle the Tarmac SL8 feels more comfortable, filtering 6% more road vibration and letting you attack corners with an agility and balance unique in the world of road bikes. The new Tarmac SL8 keeps the proven geometry of the SL7, with the same generous clearance for 32 mm tyres, so you can run a higher-volume tyre whenever you need to. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES: In reality, there can be far greater differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where there aren't any. Every rider, male or female, can take advantage of everything the Tarmac SL8 has to offer. It's time to move beyond. The S-Works Tarmac SL8 frame, with a 68mm threaded bottom bracket, is the perfect starting point for building the bike of your dreams. "Apple's Find My technology is now integrated into all S-Works and Pro 4iiii power meters. Every rider will finally have the peace of mind of always knowing the exact location of their bike."
