Description
Aerodynamics or lightness alone don't win races: what matters is speed. To achieve that speed you need to build an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, low weight, stiffness and vibration damping. Using complex simulations based on real-world data, our Ride Science Team has confirmed that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike on any course: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat road, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in doing so we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, even more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimised for maximum advantage. The fork steerer is positioned further back relative to the front of the head tube to deliver significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, on the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, ensuring that turbulent air in the leg area can flow more easily towards the rear of the bike. WEIGHT: To build the Tarmac SL8 and create the most aerodynamic bike possible while meeting UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew on everything we learned with the Aethos. The team produced a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike in the World Tour*. By focusing on maximum weight savings in the down tube, seat tube and rear end of the bike, we applied the lessons learned during the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond to stress so efficiently that it was possible to reduce material thickness, cutting out everything unnecessary. RIDE QUALITY: The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas responsible for power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable in the saddle, filtering 6% more road vibration and letting you attack corners with an agility and balance unlike anything else in the road bike world. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES: In reality, there can be far greater differences between two male riders than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where there are none. Every rider, male or female, can take advantage of everything the Tarmac SL8 has to offer. It's time to go beyond.
