Description
Aerodynamics or lightness alone don't win races: what matters is speed. To achieve this speed you need to create an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness and vibration damping. Thanks to complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has verified that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any course: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat terrain, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in the process we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, more aerodynamic than the Venge too. The front end has been optimized to deliver maximum advantage. The fork steerer tube is positioned rearward relative to the front of the frame's head tube to deliver much lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to new UCI rules, for the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, to ensure that turbulent air in the leg area can flow more easily toward the rear of the bike. LIGHTNESS: To create the Tarmac SL8 and build the most aerodynamic bicycle while respecting UCI's minimum weight requirements, we drew inspiration from what we learned with the Aethos. The team built a 685 gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. By focusing on maximum lightness in the seat tube, seatstay and rear of the bike, we adopted the lessons learned in the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond to loads so efficiently that we were able to reduce material thickness, eliminating the unnecessary. *Except for that time Kasper Asgreen raced our 585 gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY: The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas that ensure power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, in the saddle the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable, filtering 6% more vibration from the ground and allowing you to attack corners with a sense of agility and balance unique in the road bike world. The new Tarmac SL8 maintains the proven geometry of the SL7 model, with the same generous 32 mm tire clearance, so you can use a larger volume tire when needed. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES: In reality there can be far more differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design based on the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where none exist. Every cyclist, male or female, can benefit from the advantages of the Tarmac SL8. It's time to go beyond. The Tarmac SL8 Expert Di2 features the Ultegra Di2 groupset, C38 tubeless ready carbon wheels, SL7 stem with Specialized Expert Shallow drop handlebar.
