Description

Uncompromising Performance — aerodynamics or light weight alone don't win races: what matters is speed. To achieve that speed you need to build an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, light weight, stiffness and vibration damping. Through complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has proven that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike on any terrain: – 16.6 seconds over 40 km of flat road, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in doing so we've created our fastest road bike ever — yes, even more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimised for maximum advantage. The fork steerer is set back relative to the front of the head tube to deliver significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, on the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, ensuring that turbulent air around the legs can flow more easily towards the rear of the bike. LIGHT WEIGHT To build the Tarmac SL8 and create the most aerodynamic bike possible while meeting the UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew on everything we learned with the Aethos. The team produced a 685-gram frame — 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike in the World Tour*. By focusing on maximum weight savings in the down tube, seat tube and rear end of the bike, we applied the lessons learned during the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond to stress so efficiently that it was possible to reduce material thickness, cutting out everything that isn't needed. *Except for that time Kasper Asgreen raced on our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY The Tarmac SL8's stiffness-to-weight ratio is 33% better than the SL7's. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to every pedal input. While the areas responsible for power transfer and handling precision are stiffer than ever, the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable in the saddle, filtering 6% more road vibration and letting you attack corners with an agility and balance that's truly unique in the world of road racing. The new Tarmac SL8 keeps the proven geometry of the SL7, with the same generous clearance for 32 mm tyres, so you can run a higher-volume tyre whenever you need it. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES In reality there can be far greater differences between two male riders than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual and our philosophy is simple: don't create differences where there aren't any. Every rider, male or female, can take full advantage of what the Tarmac SL8 has to offer. It's time to move beyond. The Tarmac SL8 Expert Di2 comes equipped with the Ultegra Di2 groupset, tubeless ready carbon C38 wheels, SL7 stem with Specialized Expert Shallow drop handlebar.
