Description
S-Works Tarmac SL8: Performance and Innovation Aerodynamics or light weight alone don't win races: what matters is speed. To achieve that speed you need an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, light weight, stiffness and vibration damping. Through complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has confirmed that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike on any terrain: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat road, 128 seconds faster over the Milano-Sanremo route, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb. AERODYNAMICS We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in doing so we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, even more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimized for maximum advantage. The fork steerer is positioned rearward relative to the front of the frame's head tube, delivering significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, on the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest and most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made, ensuring that turbulent air in the leg area can flow more easily towards the rear of the bike. LIGHT WEIGHT To build the Tarmac SL8 and create the most aerodynamic bike possible while meeting UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew on everything we learned with the Aethos. The team produced a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike in the World Tour*. By focusing on maximum weight savings in the down tube, seat tube and rear end of the bike, we applied the lessons learned during the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond to stress so efficiently that it was possible to reduce material thickness, cutting out everything that wasn't needed. *Except for that time Kasper Asgreen raced our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas responsible for power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable in the saddle, filtering 6% more road vibration and letting you attack corners with an agility and balance that's truly unique in the road bike world. The new Tarmac SL8 keeps the proven geometry of the SL7 model, with the same generous 32 mm tyre clearance, so you can run a higher-volume tyre whenever you need it. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES In reality, there can be far greater differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where there are none. Every cyclist, male or female, can take full advantage of the Tarmac SL8. It's time to move beyond. Tarmac SL8 Expert The Tarmac SL8 Expert runs the SRAM Rival eTap AXS groupset with power meter, C38 tubeless ready carbon wheels, an SL7 stem with Specialized Expert alloy handlebar — a package that delivers outstanding value for money.
