Description

Tarmac SL8: The Fastest Road Bike Ever Aerodynamics or lightness alone don't win races – what matters is speed. To achieve that speed, you need to create an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness and vibration damping. Thanks to complex simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science Team has proven that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any terrain: – 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km of flat ground – 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo route – 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb AERODYNAMICS We use aerodynamics where it matters most, and in the process we've created our fastest road bike ever – yes, more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimized for maximum advantage. The fork steerer is positioned further back relative to the front of the head tube to deliver significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to new UCI rules, we were able to use the narrowest, most aerodynamic seatpost we've ever made for the SL8, ensuring turbulent air in the leg area flows more easily toward the rear of the bike. LIGHTNESS To create the Tarmac SL8 and build the most aerodynamic bike while respecting UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew inspiration from what we learned with the Aethos. The team engineered a frame at 685 grams – 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. By focusing on maximum lightness in the seat tube, seatstays and rear of the bike, we applied the lessons learned from the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to loads that we were able to reduce material thickness, eliminating unnecessary weight. *Except for that time Kasper Asgreen raced our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage. RIDE QUALITY The Tarmac SL8's stiffness-to-weight ratio is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling – it's precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas that ensure power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, in the saddle the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable, filtering 6% more vibration from the ground and letting you attack corners with a unique sense of agility and balance in the road bike world. The new Tarmac SL8 maintains the proven geometry of the SL7 model, with the same generous 32 mm tire clearance, so you can run a larger volume tire when needed. BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES In reality, there can be far more differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design for the individual, and our philosophy is simple: Don't create differences where none exist. Every rider, male or female, can benefit from the advantages of the Tarmac SL8. It's time to go beyond. The S-Works Tarmac SL8 comes equipped with Shimano Dura Ace Di2 9200 series groupset with dual-sided powermeter, Roval Rapide CLX II tubeless-ready wheels, Roval Rapide cockpit.
