In 2019, Áspero took the world by storm, announcing a "new era of gravel speed". The new Áspero stays true to those first, simpler days of real gravel, but with some improvements: a threaded bottom bracket, cleaner cable routing and a UDH-compatible derailleur hanger for those who want to run SRAM drivetrains. And of course it's more aerodynamic. In the case of the Áspero, though, aerodynamic performance isn't so much about outright speed as it is about energy savings, achieved by reducing aerodynamic drag. After a tough day riding into a headwind, the three watts saved over the previous Áspero could translate to one fewer energy gel your stomach has to process – you'll have to ride it to believe it! Beyond the reduction in aerodynamic drag, we've also lowered the chainstays to give a little more rear-end grip and slightly reduced the stiffness of the front end to make those last hours of truly long races a little less punishing. Between the lowered chainstays we've also added a bit more mud clearance, drawing on everything learned from the R5-CX (and the 2023 Unbound mudfest). These are a lot of seemingly small improvements, but they all add up to something much greater. The result is a bike that looks a lot like the original Áspero, but is in fact faster, more comfortable and more versatile.
