Race Frame Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7 2021 GREEN Aerodynamics "Aerodynamics is everything" is the motto that Specialized has adopted for years and it's also what characterizes the design of the new Tarmac. For the tubes that create the fastest frame and always compliant with UCI regulations, they drew inspiration from the Venge and their collection of optimized profiles 'FreeFoil Shape Library'. They returned to their wind tunnel to create a modular test bike with these profiles. The result is the new Tarmac, the fastest yet. No compromises, pure speed. In the journey to create the new Tarmac, as with all our race road bikes, weight was another key factor. Previously, aerodynamic bikes came with a weight penalty – the more you reduced air resistance, the more weight increased. With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was to keep it, as standard, at the UCI regulation limit or just below. With the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like FEA analysis and some high-level engineering tricks, we pulled it off. Experience in creating the Venge also helped us in building a clean and fast 'cockpit'. Cable routing was improved for any configuration while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency. The same characteristics that make the new Tarmac easy to use and practical for travel. Always with the goal of developing the best race road bike, they used our Rider-First Engineered™ technology to ensure that the new Tarmac was balanced and manageable in every frame size. Feedback Thanks to feedback from athletes on three professional teams Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe and based on their thousands of kilometers on the road, we made changes to the Tarmac. A new balance in ride quality between the front end and the rear end, so that even the longest days in the saddle are more comfortable, without compromising the legendary handling and responsiveness of the Tarmac.
